Chapter 1: A Letter to God

ЁЯУЦ Prose Class 10 тЬНя╕П G.L. Fuentes NCERT First Flight

ЁЯУЦ Chapter Summary

Lencho, a hardworking farmer, lives in a small valley with his family. His house is on the top of a low hill and from there he can see the river and his cornfield. He hopes for a good rain for his corn harvest. It rains heavily, but soon hailstones destroy the entire crop. Left with no hope, Lencho writes a letter to God asking for 100 pesos. The postmaster, moved by Lencho's faith, collects money from his employees and sends 70 pesos. When Lencho receives less money, he becomes angry and writes another letter to God asking for the remaining 30 pesos, but warns God not to send it through the post office because the post office employees are 'a bunch of crooks'. The story highlights Lencho's unshakable faith in God and also the postmaster's kindness.
